Meet The Makers: Daisy Foster Personalised Illustrations
25 Apr
Daisy Foster Personalised IllustrationsI’m Daisy and I live in the heart of the Somerset Levels, England, with my husband and our two daughters, Poppy and Bonnie. We also have our lovely cat and five guinea pigs (three unplanned!)
I am an artist and I create personalised art prints and stationery for any occasion. I draw, paint and then pen my illustrations onto fine watercolour paper. These are then scanned, primped and preened on the trusty Mac, ready to be personalised and printed onto beautiful embossed cards and paper and delivered to your door.

Why and when did you decide to start your business?

I have been painting since I was small, and used to sell watercolour landscapes and house portraits in my late teens and early twenties. When my sister got married, she asked me to create her wedding stationery and I loved it so much I started that side of my business then. I created stationery for brides and grooms all over the UK and overseas too.

When my first daughter was born, nearly 10 years ago, I noticed all the lovely personal things friends and family love to give on these happy occasions, and so was born my personalised initial or name prints range. The personalised stationery seemed a natural progression and they are now amongst my most popular products – people love to still sent hand written letters and I love helping to keep the art of letter writing alive!
Where do you seek inspiration from for your product range?
Everything around me inspires me! My children and their wonderfully playful imaginations, my own imagination (I am a complete romantic), songs, poetry, folk tales and fairy tales, nature… absolutely anything! I also love flicking through home magazines, when I have a rare moment. It’s a bit of a guilty pleasure.
What are your greatest achievements to date?
I feel a sense of achievement each and every time I sell a product – I think that’s very common in any small business. But I think my biggest achievement to date would be completing and launching my own website at the end of 2016 and seeing the reach of my products sales growing.
Who inspires you?
So many people inspire me! Through seeing him in his own work, my husband inspires me to believe in myself, my business and to have pride in what I do. My children and family inspire me daily and endlessly, through their positivity and support. Fellow small business owners inspire me to keep going – through seeing how they might manage the work/family life balance, or learning new tips and techniques for products and marketing strategy – I LOVE that their is such a sense of support and team spirit out there.
What is important to you in business?
Making sure my prints and stationery leave my studio looking wonderful is crucial to me – I really want them to have the wow factor when they arrive and are opened. I have had such lovely feedback from customers over my packaging (I love a ‘happy post’ sticker!). Hearing from happy customers about their love of their orders is so important to me – when you work for yourself it makes all the difference to have good feedback, especially if the product was a gift and it’s brought a tear to someone’s eye – that’s always a winning moment!
What do you enjoy most about your business?
I enjoy many things…being able to work around my children is probably the best. I love that I can make it to school events and do all the wrap around bits of parenting, even when it sometimes gets a bit crazy and I’m multi-tasking my head off, I wouldn’t change that for the world. I also enjoy creating new product ranges… and hearing from happy customers. I love my customers!
What has been your biggest endorsement to date you have received for your product/s
The biggest endorsement was probably earlier this year when instagram super mum motherpukka shared a super hero family print I had done for her on her instagram stories. She was so lovely about it, and the response and subsequent orders I received was incredible.
Why did you choose to list your products on oodlique?
I loved the fresh approach, feel and functionality of the oodlique website, and was flattered when they approached me to be part of the team. I love creating unique and personal treats for people – and this is just what oodlique is about.
What has your experience been like working with oodlique?
I am relatively new to the oodlique family, but so far I have found it to be great – they made it very easy for me and were super helpful in helping me set up my products range. It’s been a seamless transition and I am already making sales!
What does the future hold for your business?
I just want to keep doing what I am doing, to keep growing my product range and the sales I am achieving, and to carry on being able to work for myself and my family.
